3) NCHERM Spring 2009 Schedule of Campus Visits NCHERM consultants are already scheduled to visit 50 campuses this spring. Perhaps they might visit your campus if they’ll be nearby? View our schedule of campus visits. To schedule a visit, please contact Kate Halligan, NCHERM’s Director of Client Relationships at (610) 579-3725 or kate@ncherm.org. 4) Launch of the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA) NCHERM has helped to found the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA), a new membership organization for higher education. NaBITA’s mission is to provide education, development and support to professionals in schools and in the workplace who endeavor every day to make their campuses and workplaces safer through caring prevention and intervention. View the press release announcing the launch of NaBITA. NaBITA will have exhibit tables at the ASJA, ACPA, NASPA and Community College Legal Issues Conferences this spring. Please come by and visit us there. While at our table, make sure you grab a free copy of Threat Assessment in the Campus Setting, the NaBITA Whitepaper and enter to win a Nintendo Wii Console (for your kids, of course). www.nabita.org 5) Anti-Violence Grant Opportunity The U.S. Department of Education is offering a Grant Competition to Prevent High-Risk Drinking or Violent Behavior Among College Students with applications due Jan 30, 2009. Of particular interest is the second "absolute priority": Absolute Priority #2: Develop or Enhance, Implement, and Evaluate Campus- and/or Community-Based Strategies to Prevent Violent Behavior Among College Students (see p. 23 of the information/application procedures.) Regarding the violent behavior that may be addressed by the application, the FAQ (also posted on the site) states: "Absolute Priority #2 does not specify the type of violent behavior among college students that is to be prevented. Forms of violent behavior that are of concern on college campuses include rape and sexual assault; nonsexual physical assault, such as fights, muggings, and hazing; and hate crimes. Applicants can use their own discretion based on the needs of their campus community in determining what specific forms of violent behavior will be addressed in their respective proposals. " 6) Free 2009 NCHERM Whitepaper: As with every issue of the NCHERM Newsletter, we provide you with what we hope is a thought-provoking article. Please use this link to access our annual NCHERM Whitepaper, 2nd Generation Behavioral Intervention Best Practices (PDF), by NCHERM Partners Brett A. Sokolow, JD and W.
