NCHERM Newsletter

Winter 2010

Welcome

Hello friends and colleagues.  Welcome to the WINTER 2010 NCHERM Newsletter.

The sections in this newsletter include:

1.  NEWS FROM NCHERM

  • NCHERM consultants visited 154 college and university campuses in 2009.  Thank you for continuing to value our expertise and services.
  • FREE.  FREE.  FREE.  Just a reminder that NCHERM gives away its models and intellectual property for free.  If you want to hire us to consult with you on implementation or training, we're happy to do it, but you don't need to pay to access our work product.   To help you in this time of tight budgets, we've added content and made our free models easier to find on our website. To access the Free Models and Protocols page, click here
  • Red Flags Rule Compliance is required by June 1.  Is your campus doing what it needs to do to protect students from identity theft?  NCHERM Partner Saunie Schuster is our resident Red Flags expert, and has developed a four-day implementation consulting package to get you ready by the June 1 enforcement deadline.  Email Client Relations Coordinator Samantha Dutill for more details.
  • NCHERM was a sponsor at the 2010 Community College Legal Issues Conference in Orlando.  This is a great event for those NCHERM clients who are community colleges.  NCHERM Partners Brett Sokolow and Saunie Schuster presented on the opening and closing town hall panels, as well as presenting a pre-con and two concurrent sessions.
  • Dr. Leah Hollis joined the NCHERM Client Relations team in January.  Welcome Dr. Hollis!  NCHERM is also enjoying the hard work of two graduate interns, Troy Talkington of Loyola University of Chicago and Justin Ellis of Texas A&M.
  • NCHERM Partner W. Scott Lewis, J.D. has assumed the Presidency of ASCA, the Association for Student Conduct Administrators.  Congrats Scott!  One of his top priorities for 2010 is to grow the ACSA membership.  We encourage NCHERM clients who are not involved in ASCA to become members this year!
  • NCHERM is pleased to announce that it has become a Titanium Sponsor of IACLEA.  This relationship reflects the growing importance of campus law enforcement to the threat assessment models elaborated by NCHERM.       More details are posted here.
  • NCHERM is now offering Behavioral Intervention Team formation and training consultation.  Training is available in 1-4 day formats.  We offer training that focuses on basic team formation as follows:

    - Team Formation and Operation

    - Team Protocol Development

    - Intervention Best Practices

    - Team Communication and Privacy Issues

We also offer training that focuses on advanced skills, such as:

    - Mental Health Law and Suicidality

    - Threat Assessment

    - Table Top Exercises

    - Advanced Risk Mitigation and Integration Topics

Please contact Kate Halligan, NCHERM’s Director of Client Relationships at (610) 579-3725 or kate@ncherm.org for more information.

  • What is our most popular workshop?  Preventing and Responding to Disruptive Students, a seminar that can be presented for faculty, staff or both by NCHERM Partner W. Scott Lewis, J.D. in 2 hour, half-day, full-day and two-day versions.  More details are posted here.
  • What is our most popular prevention program?  Drunk Sex or Date Rape:  Can You Tell the Difference?  This program has been presented by Brett Sokolow on more than 1,800 college campuses.  The program can be presented with a new bystander empowerment component that enhances the primary prevention efficacy of this program.  More details, click here.
